• Homework

Homework is an important part of your child’s school experience.  Supporting good work habits requires a joint effort. I will support your child in school and encourage good work habits at school.  Your child will benefit greatly from your support and encouragement at home.

Please read the homework policy below and discuss it with your child.

This homework policy is similar to the one used by some teachers at MAMS.  Every student will begin each marking period with a homework grade of 100 in both ELA and Math.  Each missing homework assignment from the respective subject areas will result in a deduction of 5 points from this grade. Students may receive 3 points back, for a net loss of 2 points, if they make up the assignment and hand it in the next day. Incomplete assignments or assignments that do not show enough effort will result in a deduction of 3 points. Again, students are given the opportunity to make up the assignment the next day to receive 2 points back, for a net loss of 1 point.  At the end of the marking period, this homework grade will be averaged in to students’ final ELA and Math score as a test grade.

Please note, students must be sure to show make up assignments to the teacher the following day to receive credit back. Students will not be reminded of their missing assignments, but are free to ask permission to view their list of missing work. We are trying to encourage responsibility for one’s own work as we head into middle school.  Extensions will be granted on an individual basis dependent on circumstances.

All homework has a purpose, and I try to keep it reasonable. As a parent, I understand that from time-to-time situations arise making homework difficult to complete.  If such a problem arises, just send me a note and of course I will understand.  Please don’t hesitate to contact me if you have any questions.

Thank you for helping me to help your child be a responsible student!
