Physical Education Word of the Week!!!! The Word of the Week (WOW!) is an initiative that introduces a new robust and rigorous vocabulary word once a week. The WOW is integrated through all grades and is posted on the dry erase board. See below for a list of our vocabulary words, the definition, how it applies in our class, and how the students are able to apply it in their everyday life. . Control: To direct the actions or function of something. In Phys. Ed. we had to demonstrate control over the soccer ball while dribbling, passing, and trapping. Our students application: "We control our behavior by being respectful and kind to everyone around us." "We use the handlebars on our bicycle to control the direction we move." Anticipate: To expect or predict; to regard as probable. In Phys. Ed. we anticipate how a playground will bounce when we apply varied amounts of force. Our Students application: "When the sun is setting I anticipate that my bedtime is soon." "When I wake up to the smell of pancakes I anticipate that I will have them for breakfast" Always: Without exception; continuous. In Phys. Ed. we always try our best. Our Students application: "I always brush my teeth before I go to bed." "We always have dinner at night." Consistent: Always acting or behaving in the same way. In P.E. we are consistent with our expectations of the students. Our student's application: "I am consistently on time for school." "I am working on consistently getting good grades in math." Exhibit: to show or display outwardly especially by visible signs or actions. In P.E. we can exhibit proper technique when working on a skill. Our students application: "I exhibit good listening skills by following the directions being given." "We can exhibit the proper pencil grip when writing." Demonstrate: To prove something by showing examples of it. In P.E. we demonstrate proper listening position by quietly sitting on our floor spots. Our students application: "My Dad demonstrated how to hammer a nail into a piece of wood." "I demonstrate to my little brother how to hold a pencil." Technique: A way of doing something by a special talent or skill. In Phys. Ed. we have learned the proper technique in many sport and fitness skills. Our students application: "My Dad taught me the right technique on how to ride my 2 wheeler." "My big brother showed me the right swimming technique." Our students application: "Every morning I transition out of my bed into the bathroom." "My little sister is going to transition from her crib into a big girl bed." Form: The shape or structure of something; established method of order or proceeding. In Phys. Ed. we teach the students the proper form on many exercises and athletic movements. Our students' application: "My Mom shows me the proper form when she drives her car." "My teacher showed me the right form for holding my crayon." Pace: consistent and continuous speed. In Phys. Ed. we teach the students how to pace themselves when we jog. Our students' application: "My dad always tells me to pace myself when I am reading." "I have a hard time pacing myself when I do the mile jog in gym." Differentiate: Recognize what makes something or someone different. In Phys Ed. we differentiated the heights of the Chinese jump ropes for each child. Our student's application: " I can differentiate shapes that I have learned." "We differentiate foods that we eat." Involuntary: done without will or conscious control. Our application: When teaching the Cardiovascular System, we explain that this is an involuntary process. Our Student's application: " I sneeze, and that's involuntary." "When I blink, it is an involuntary action." Perform: to carry out or accomplish.
