Morning Meeting is how we start each day. We connect and share while expressing feelings and celebrating our individuality.

Fountas & Pinnell Classroom is a research –based comprehensive Reading Language Arts program that immerses students in high quality literature. FPC follows a balanced literacy framework.  It contains five text based instructional contexts to engage students in reading, writing, thinking and talking with varied levels of teacher support. It is an integrated approach that develops students' deep knowledge of literacy concepts.  It provides explicit whole group instruction and small group application while teaching phonics, phonemic awareness, reading strategies and comprehension.  Through FPC, your child will grow to be a life long reader and writer.

Heggerty is a program that provides daily phonological awareness instruction. It teaches students to hear and work with sounds in spoken words.  Students will orally blend, segment and manipulate sounds. It is a foundational reading skill that enables students to decode and encode words in print.

Fundations is a program that provides systematic and explicit phonics / word work instruction. We are also incorporating the Teachers College Phonics program.

Spelling words will be taken from Fountas and Pinnell's Lists of Commonly used phonograms and High Frequency Sight Words. Students will be given 10 new words weekly. Six of these words will follow a specific spelling pattern/phonics rule. Four words will be high frequency sight words.  Students will be tested on these words. They will also be expected to spell 3 additional application words following the same spelling pattern and 2 review sight words.  This totals 15 words a week.
